Vermont Brewery Showcased in Newport for Exclusive Evening

Newport, RI - December 18, 2009 - Castle Hill Inn & ResortSM, a Relais & Chateaux property located at 590 Ocean Drive in Newport, RI, is pleased to present the return of  Long Trail  Brewing Company for the its annual beer dinner on Saturday, January 23rd.   Brandon Mayes, Assistant Quality Assurance Manager for the Long Trail Brewing Company of Vermont, will lead guests through each beer selection as they are paired with Executive Chef Jonathan Cambra's five-course dinner.  A reception will begin at 6:30 p.m.; dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $85.00 per person; tax and gratuity are additional.  For more information or to make a reservation, please call 401.848.0918 x 150.

The evening will begin with a reception of passed hors d'oeuvres including Simmons Farm Pork Corn Dog with cranberry mustard, Venison Chile with winter spiced sour cream, Mac & Cheese Strudel with Shelburne Cheddar béchamel, Chicken & Biscuits with Kenyon's cornmeal fried quail and chourico gravy, and half-shelled Matunuck Oysters with an ale mignonette, all paired with Long Trail Ale, a full-bodied amber ale featuring a complex yet clean and full flavor, and the light and refreshing Blackberry Wheat.

Dinner will begin with Georges Bank Monkfish served with winter vegetable slaw, tempura white anchovy, and sun dried tomato vinaigrette, and paired with the cloudy and golden Winter White Ale, featuring aromas of orange, coriander, nutmeg, ginger, and spices.

The second course will feature Pork & Clams: Simmons Farm pork and native clams with new potato, parsley, and tomato, paired with the Long Trail IPA, brewed in the tradition of the British IPA, unfiltered with extra hops and a higher strength.

A dish of Broken Arrow Ranch Antelope will follow, served with butternut squash hash, parsnip puree, poached apple, a huckleberry emulsion, and the robust Long Trail Hibernator, featuring malty flavors of wheat, chocolate, and caramel.

The evening's fourth course will feature locally raised grass-fed Aquidneck Farms Beef Rib Eye with Edge goat cheese-stuffed potato, mushroom ragout, and ancho chile reduction, paired with the Long Trail Double Bag, a full-bodied and dark amber selection.

Dinner will conclude with Portuguese Sweetbread Pudding with donut custard, molasses ice cream, and porter anglaise, served with the limited-release Imperial Porter. Featuring a complex and darkly roasted malt flavor complemented by a thin, creamy head, the Imperial Porter offers an abundance of two-row, Cara Munich, caramel 80L, wheat, roasted barley, and chocolate malts which are balanced with a variety of hops to create a clean finish.

Long Trail Brewery opened in 1989 in Bridgewater, Vermont.  The microbrewery makes a number of different styles of beer, mostly English-style top-fermented ales, but its flagship beer is Long Trail Ale, a Düsseldorf-style altbier.  Brandon Mayes, Ph.D., is the Quality Assurance Manager for Long Trail, where he works in the lab and brewery for Long Trail, conducting microbiological sampling and analysis, standardization of brewing equipment, and analyzing and evaluating beer, brewing water, raw ingredients, and waste water.  Brandon holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from York College of Pennsylvania and is a member of the American Homebrewers Association, American Society of Brewing Chemists, and the Green Mountain Rural Water Association.
